The Southern Coins

"HE is the Maker of the Bear and Orion, the Pleiades and the constellations of the south..." (Job 9:9)

It's so interesting to see the Bible and science commingle in regards to the vastness of the universe! There are many other verses in the Bible that speak about "the stars in the heavens" that I'm pretty sure scientists are eager to discover as well.

However, no matter where you live, in the countryside or in the city, there's nothing like star gazing that brings what you've read in books to life! But to put those stars in the form of a collectible coin is both challenging and amazing. This takes hard work and dedication and one mint has clearly done so...

The Royal Australian Mint has produced the Southern Sky Coin series which brings the beauty of the constellations alive in the palm of your hand.

The coins they have produced are: The Crux, The Pavo, and The Orion.

The two main highlights that have attracted investors and collectors to these coins are their domed shape and the extremely detailed canvas painted on them. And to make matters "better", the edge of the coins are surrounded by a compass-like border with the "actual coordinates" to view the constellations at night! How cool is that!?

All three coins have the image of Queen Elizabeth II with $5 dollars inscribed and each comes with a certificate of authenticity. Sadly, the Royal Australian Mint only produced 10,000 of these coins. Due to its popularity and unique design, they are extremely hard to find and tend to carry a higher premium. These are perfect gifts for those who love coin collecting and/or astrology!

The Southern Sky Crux

This was the FIRST DOMED shape coin world wide and is a beautiful piece to have. Here is a video from Modern Coin Mart to give you a better explanation and clearer picture of this stunning coin...

The Southern Sky Pavo

The second coin of the Southern Sky series is The Pavo. This constellation was discovered in 1598 by Dutch astronomer, Petrus Plancius. Pavo is one of 12 constellations discovered by Plancius and is often referred to by the name "Peacock".

The final coin in the series is The Orion. This constellation is not in the southern sky, but scientist believe it will eventually be there in the year 14000. The Orion constellation is well known throughout the world and goes by different names and stories.

The Orion coin was release August 4, 2014 and also shown to the public during The Orion Spacecraft convention in Australia. Check out this cool video to learn more...

I'm in the process of obtaining the Crux coin to add to the collection.
