The panda commemorative series is a cooperative effort between the China Mint and the Smithsonian. This 2016 addition to the series features Bei Bei, who was born at the National Zoo on August 22, 2015. On the reverse, Bei Bei is shown as he looked just after being born. The design on the reverse shows a springbok. This species of antelope is the national animal of South Africa. A detailed landscape can be seen behind it. Paul Kruger, the first President of South Africa, is depicted on the obverse in fine detail. His hair and beard are full of details in this portrait. This 2019 South Africa Silver Krugerrand was submitted to NGC within 30 days of the series being released from the mint. Thus, giving this coin the special designation of First Release.
